Jackson
Tower
The Jackson Tower
is not a street clock, but nevertheless is the most recognized
public clock in Portland. Today, it stands watch over Pioneer
Courthouse Square (left), Portland's "living room" on
Southwest Broadway. Once a true skyscraper, it was among the tallest
buildings in the city when it was constructed in 1912 as the headquarters
for the Daily Oregonian. Today, it is an elegant reminder of Portland's
past. At night, the outline of the Jackson Tower is illuminated
with thousands of marquee lights (right).
