First
National Bank
Located at the
corner of Third and Oak streets, this massive clock is approximately
six feet tall. Though it appears to be pole-mounted from a distance,
it is actually attached to the southeast corner of the historic
First National Bank building. Small interpretive plaques describing
the history of the building are located nearby (shown below),
at the south entrance of the structure. The building is now home
to a museum of carousel art.
Steve Schmidt
notes that this appears to be a McClintock clock from about the
1920s, and has a chime feature inside. These clocks also featured
stained glass, and were run by a master clock located inside the
building. Some of these clocks also controlled an alarm located
on the exterior of the building.
