Albany, Oregon

F.M. French Clock

Now maintained by Sid Stevens Jewelers, this clock dates to Albany's heyday as an 1870s shipping center for the newly settled Willamette Valley. The F. M. French clock is located at the base of the twin Willamette River bridges at the corner of First Avenue and Ellsworth Street, in Albany's historic downtown. The base is probably made by E. Howard & Company, dating to the turn of the 20th Century, and likely had a top piece at one time. The surrounding neighborhoods also date to the late 1800s, and the many Victorian homes here are preserved as a National Historic District.
