Seattle is most famous for its spectacle - the Space Needle, massive skyscrapers and stadiums, Elliot Bay and Lake Washington and the Olympic and Cascade peaks that tower on the horizon. But Seattle has done much to improve its image at the pedestrian level in the downtown, and in emerging urban districts around the city.

Seattle is rich in street clocks. They range from elaborate, nineteenth century installations to newer, modern clocks, erected as part of the ongoing urban renewal. All of the clocks shown in these pages are in the downtown area, and can be visited in a single walk.

The Pike Place public market sign is also included in these pages. Though not a true street clock, it is easily the most familiar clock in Seattle, and one of the most recognized clocks in the world.
