Downtown Dallas
is undergoing a large scale renovation. City planners are attempting
to reverse the damage done during decades of massive high-rise
construction, where monolithic glass towers dwarfed pedestrians,
and street level activity vanished. The new DART light rail mall
is a big step in the right direction, with award-winning station
platform designs and very good attention to detail at the pedestrian
level. Renovations in the historic West End district and nearby
housing developments are filling other niches in the new Dallas
downtown. The street clocks picture here are part of the DART
mall.
