Crowds of convention
      visitors flood out of the Oregon Convention Center each day to
      relax on dozens of traditional benches set into alcoves against
      a low brick retaining wall. The wall, itself, serves as seating
      for visitors. The sidewalk paving pattern (left) helps define
      the pedestrian way, creating a sense of enclosure for the seating
      areas. Note the waste bins incorporated into the retaining wall
      (right), but far enough from seating to be comfortable.
