In Portland's
      Chinatown, the "official" street trees are flowering
      cherries. Here, along the Classical Chinese Garden block, treee
      wells are expanded to include ornamental grasses and shrubs that
      complement the walled garden. Some evidence of trampling shows
      in these relatively new plantings, though the overall effect
      is both striking and relatively durable.
