Planting Strips Troutdale, Oregon

In Troutdale, the narrow sidewalks along the emerging main street are too narrow to permit much greenery beyond street trees. But where the new "Mayor's Park" abuts the main street, color plantings of fescue, heathers and pink flower carpet rose spread out under flowering cherries, marking "inner" and "outer" sidewalks along the park frontage (below).

 Raised brick beds (above, below) complete the design near the street corner, where the terrain slopes downward. At the corner, a small curb extension is left open (below), with a simple, but effective rock garden echoing the rounded boulders and cobbles that are the trademark of the nearby Sandy River.
