Esther Short Park - Vancouver, Washington A Nod to Benefactors

A subtle touch gives tribute to park benefactor George Propstra (above), who made much of the park renovation possible. The local history is cast in bronze in the form of a newspaper (below) that chronicles the role of the Propstra family in the park and town square renewal. Like all good public art, this piece shows signs of community appreciation in the form of a polished knee, worn shiny by children climbing into the lap of the father of Esther Short Park. The sculpture's location on a park bench ensures that it has frequent company from park visitors.
