Esther Short Park - Vancouver, Washington Running Water

Just "upstream" from the plaza, an interactive fountain ensures that small visitors will get wet. The fountain mimics a Cascade mountain stream, with water splashing over slabs of columnar basalt. The fountain design has kids in mind, with no more than a few inches of water standing anywhere, and lots of steps and bubbling jets to explore. Like the area near the clock tower, the fountain uses polished basalt slabs (above, right) as benches, where parents can watch their children enjoy the splashing water.
