Braving the Elements
 

      
The centerpiece
      of Commercial Row is this covered mini-plaza in the heart of
      the historic district. A number of careful design elements are
      at work here, ranging from slip-resistent concrete pavers that
      are suited to the snowy winters, to the covered walkways, which
      keep harsh weather conditions from shutting down the tourist
      appeal. Large alcoves in shop doorways provide extra pedestrian
      space, and hanging shop signs and lamps commplete the scene,
      giving the street an updated design that complements the historic
      architecture.
