Cascade Avenue in Sisters, Oregon Cramped Sidewalk

A potentially fatal flaw for a main street, Sisters had to settle for narrow, six-foot sidewalks along Cascade Avenue, which is a state highway that carries heavy traffic through the town. Here, building posts make the sidewalk so narrow that it is difficult for two people to pass without stepping into the street. Civic leaders are still divided on whether to re-route truck traffic or create a couplet to address the heavy flows, and allow for improved sidewalks and pedestrian crossings.
