Cascade Avenue in Sisters, Oregon Curb Extension
A pioneer in the use of curb extensions, these design elements are used in Sisters to define parallel parking bays and calm traffic by forming squeeze points at intersections. Sadly, they are not built on Cascade Avenue, though new state design guidelines could allow them today. This example is located on one of many side streets that were improved during the 1980s renewal project. The landscaping is composed of tough, hardy plants that can survive the snowy winters and hot summers in Sisters. < Back to Sisters Main Page n Next Image > All images are ©Tom Kloser, 2001, and may only be used by permission
