Working Street Lamps

      
The new street
      lamps in Independence are pedestrian-scaled, meaning simply that
      the lamps are located more closely to the ground, where they
      can better illuminate sidewalks -- not the tops of trees, as
      the old cobra-style highway lamps did. But the new lamps also
      serve other functions, including banner and hanging basket displays
      (above, left), and as a place to group outdoor merchandise displays
      (above, right).
