Hood River, Oregon Oak Avenue Sidewalk
Another sidewalk view of Oak Avenue shows a number of excellent design features that make the street work, despite a relatively narrow sidewalk area. These features include bike racks, vintage street lamps and street trees within the outer portion of the sidewalk. It's important to note that the removal of overhead utilities not only cured a visual blight, but also allowed for the use of large street tree species that will ultimately shade much of the street - an important consideration in sunny Hood River, where summer temperatures commonly range into the 90s. City codes that allow storefront awnings also provide shade and protection from the elements. < Back to Hood River Main Page n Next Image > All images are ©Tom Kloster, 2001, and may only be used by permission
