Hood River, Oregon Oak Avenue
Though lined with historic buildings, and spectacular views of the surrounding Columbia Gorge, Oak Avenue was a hodge-podge of obsolete sidewalks, dangerous pedestrian crossing and a tangle of overhead utilities. Of the changes made to the downtown streets, the removal of overhead utilities - which used to block the historic storefronts shown above - was the most significant. The street trees, vintage street lamp, trash receptacle, street bench and crossing ramps in this image were also added as part of the project. < Back to Hood River Main Page n Next Image > All images are ©Tom Kloster, 2001, and may only be used by permission
