Main Street - Annapolis, Maryland Street Trees

Street trees are a special challenge on crowded Annapolis streets. At Statehouse Circle (above, left) large trees are flourishing among granite pavers that find the balance between providing adequate space for tree roots and maintaining a hard walking surface. On other, narrower streets (above, right), this system is not working as well, but in the interest of tree preservation, pedestrians simply walk around the big trees.

In the reconstructed sections of Main Street and along the harbor, new trees have been planted. These young trees are being watered with irrigation bags that allow maintenance crews to quickly fill each bag, which then slowly releases water to the tree without waste. These particular bags are made by Treegator, and retail for under $25.
