Bricks & Mortar Virginia City, Nevada

A wonderfully eccentric paving scheme in the historic town of Virginia City, Nevada. The flat stone used as the main paving surface and as wheel paths in a parking area (above) are native rock from the area. The brick trim (above, below) is recycled brick from long-gone structures in Virginia City.

This carefree design is a reminder that public paving surfaces are often too sterile to be inviting or interesting, and that options for better walking surfaces are only limited by the imagination.
