Bricks & Mortar Troutdale, Oregon
In tiny Troutdale, a rapidly developing main street was constrained by a very narrow, six-foot sidewalk (above). Part of the solution was to set buildings back from the existing sidewalk by 2-3 feet, and pave these strips of "mini-plaza" with contrasting materials (above, below). A closer view of the Troutdale sidewalks shows the basic paving materials that make this project cost effective: a simple, concrete sidewalk augmented by textured concrete and composite "brick" pavers, also made from concrete.
